Buddy Hield Free Agency!
Buddy Hield is a notable free agent this summer, one of the best three-point shooters in the entire league. He started the season with the Indiana Pacers but would get traded to the Philadelphia 76ers at the deadline, where he finished the season. Interesting fact, Hield has been in the NBA for eight seasons now and this was his first appearance in the playoffs. Now to provide context, he started his career with the Sacramento Kings, who were in the middle of their playoff drought, and last year the Pacers still weren't who they are today.
Hield and the Sixers faced the New York Knicks in the first round. In games one through three in the series, he struggled offensively, especially from three-point range, and didn't play in games four and five. In game six, win or elimination scenario for the Sixers, Hield found his rhythm offensively and scored 20 points, shot 6 of 10 (60%) from the field including 6 of 9 (66.7%) from three-point range. Sadly for him, the Knicks won the game and the series despite his spectacular performance and his first playoff appearance didn't last long.
Hield's four-year, $94 million contract has now expired and will enter the free agent market. This season he shot 38.6% from three-point range and he shot 41.8% on catch-and-shoot threes. Hield's game can easily be plugged into any team and any system. According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, teams such as the Bucks, Magic, Nuggets, Suns and Timberwolves are expected to show interest in the sharpshooter. The Sixers would like to re-sign him, soon Hield will listen to many offers and see where he believes is the next best situation.
