Kevin Porter Jr Traded & Waived
Kevin Porter Jr has had himself an eventful offseason. On September 11th, Porter Jr was arrested on domestic assault charges after allegedly assaulting his WNBA girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick. Gondrezick had to be taken to the hospital and had been diagnosed with a fractured neck vertebrae. Once the Houston Rockets saw this news they made plans to immediately move on from the young guard. The Rockets made Kevin Porter Jr available to be traded, the Rockets told teams they would give up multiple second-round picks for a team to take him off their hands.
It was recently announced that the Manhattan Assistant District Attorney dropped the second-degree assault charge against Kevin Porter Jr due to "insufficient evidence." Kysre Gondrezick, Porter's girlfriend, recently came out and said that Kevin Porter Jr did not hit her. Gondrezick said "he didn't hit me. He never balled his fists up and hit me. And he definitely didn't punch me in the face numerous times. That is a lie. I don't have any injuries to support that." While Porter Jr had his second-degree assault charge dropped he will still face charges for second-degree strangulation and third-degree assault. If convicted on the speculation charge, he could face a maximum seven-year sentence in prison.
The Houston Rockets knew Kevin Porter Jr could no longer be a part of their organization and were ready to move on from him. The Rockets traded Kevin Porter Jr and two future second-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Thunder waived Porter Jr immediately. The Rockets receive Victor Oladipo and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl in the deal. The Thunder are acquiring a 2027 second-round pick via. Minnesota and a 2028 second-round pick via. Milwaukee. Last summer the Rockets and Kevin Porter Jr did agree a contract extension worth up to $82.5 million however the contract was partially-guaranteed. With the Thunder immediately waiving Kevin Porter Jr, they're required to only pay nearly $17 million of the guaranteed salary in his contract.
