Klay Thompson Heading to South Florida?
Klay Thompson has been a member of the Golden State Warriors since being drafted in 2011. He has been arguably the second most important piece to the dynasty. From 2015 to 2022, the Warriors went to six NBA Finals and won four championships in that span. Thompson was a huge factor in the team's success but recent rumors suggest that this could be the end of an era. It was recently reported by Shams Charania that Klay Thompson and the Orlando Magic have mutual interest heading towards free agency.
The Orlando Magic just finished having one their best seasons since 2010. They ended this season with a 47-35 record and won the Southeast division title. They would face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first-round of the NBA playoffs. Despite being young and inexperienced, they put up a great fight but were eliminated after seven games. The Magic only shot 30.9% from three-point range in the first-round match up and Thompson can provide great help in that area as he is known for his amazing shooting abilities.
It will be weird to not see Klay Thompson play in a Warriors jersey but that goes to show the NBA is a business. The Orlando Magic will have around $40 million in cap space. They have the opportunity to offer Thompson a deal that the Warriors will be hesitant to match. It is really looking like the end of an era in Golden State and the NBA.
