Nets Retiring Vince Carter's Jersey Next Year!
Last month, Vince Carter was announced the honor of being elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame's Class of 2024. He was drafted to the NBA back in 1998 along with other greats such as Paul Pierce and Dirk Nowitzki. Carter was picked by the Toronto Raptors who were a newly expanded team, the franchise joined the league in 1995. He would spend his first six seasons with the team but due to lack of success and some internal issues he would get traded to the New Jersey Nets in 2004.
Before Carter's arrival, the Nets made the finals in back-to-back seasons but fell short in both. He paired up with some talented teammates such as Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson. While Carter would put up great numbers and continue to gain individual accomplishments, being named an All-Star a couple times, there was a lack of team success. They never made it back to the finals or even reach the Eastern Conference round.
Carter would bounce around the league after his five-year Nets tenure. He retired from basketball after the 2019-20 seasons, played 22 years. Matter of fact, Carter is the only player in NBA history to play in four different decades. It was recently announced that the Nets, now located in Brooklyn, will retire his jersey next season.
