Who Is the Biggest All-Star Snub This Year?

Every year, after the NBA announces the All-Stars, there are always a few players that are considered snubbed from making the All-Star team. Of course you have the starting five, which are voted by the fans and then you have the reserves, approximately fourteen reserves, who are voted by the NBA coaches. Fourteen reserve spots is obviously not enough to fit all the players that have a strong case in making the All-Star team. Here are a few notable snubs this year.

Arguably the biggest snub this year is Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young. Young is averaging 27 points per game which is eleventh best in the NBA this year and averaging 10.9 assists per game which is second best in the NBA this year. While his stats are impressive the lack of winning by the Hawks does hurt his chances. Since the Hawks' surprising run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021 the Hawks have not been a true contender in the East. The Hawks are currently 21-27, the tenth seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Kings have had a depressing history the past two decades but as of late they have solidified themselves as a team to not count out in the West. Last year, Kings guard De'Aaron Fox was named an All-Star for the first time in his seven year NBA career. He even won the first ever Clutch Player of the Year award last season.  This season he is averaging 27.2 points per game which is the ninth best in the NBA this season. Now it is difficult to put Fox over guys like Edwards, Booker and Curry but he had case for himself to make his second All-Star game.

Another Kings player who is considered in the snub pool is center Domantas Sabonis. Sabonis is one of the craftiest big man in the NBA. Averaging 13 rebounds per game which is the best in the entire NBA this season and averaging 8 assists per game which is seventh best in the NBA this season. This season Sabonis is leading in double-doubles with a total of 43 and is second in triple-doubles with a total of 13. Sabonis also made the All-Star team last season along with his teammate De'aaron Fox.

There are many honorable mentions to be in the snub pool like Scottie Barnes, Jimmy Butler, Lauri Markkanen, Alperen Sengun and some others. Matter of fact, a couple of these guys may end up being named an All-Star. Julius Randle, who is named an All-Star reserve, is dealing with a dislocated shoulder injury and isn't expected to play. Joel Embiid has recently come down with a meniscus injury and he for sure won't be playing in the All-Star game. Official replacements will be announced as we get closer to the All-Star game on February 18th.
