Bulls All-Star Forward On the Trade Market?
The Chicago Bulls need to blow up their roster and start over. The Bulls' core of Vucevic, LaVine and DeRozan has not been as successful as the Bulls had hoped. Of course the absence of Lonzo Ball, who has been sidelined since January of last year, has played a role as to why the Bulls have had a lack of success. Before his injury the Bulls were at the top of the Eastern Conference and since he's been gone they've just gotten worse. The Bulls are currently the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 7-14 record and it's time to make some trades.
It was reported that the Bulls and LaVine are mutually opened to seeking a trade. LaVine's preferred destinations are Miami, Philadelphia, Los Angeles (Lakers) and San Antonio. Now I highly doubt San Antonio has any interest in LaVine as they are committed to their young players. In regards of the Lakers, it was reported that the Lakers are more interested in acquiring DeRozan and Caruso over LaVine. Not much news out of Miami or Philadelphia and Woj even reported that there just isn't a market for LaVine. It is very uncertain as to what LaVine's future looks like but it's nearly safe to say he won't finish the season in a Bulls jersey.
DeMar DeRozan is on the final year of his deal and could also be moved by the trade deadline. It was recently reported that his preferred trade destinations are Miami and New York. As I just mentioned, the Lakers have expressed interest in DeRozan as both sides failed to agree on a contract a few summers ago. A team I think should show interest in DeRozan are the Sacramento Kings. The Kings have a bunch of shooters that they can surround DeRozan with, who is a mid-range specialist, so that helps with the spacing.
The Kings are reportedly active on the market potentially looking to add a third star next to Fox and Sabonis. I think it would be a great fit, to begin with they all play different positions so they won't be getting in each others way so much. Of course the chemistry would need to be built but that's usually the case for any team that makes a trade. The Kings have the reigning Coach of the Year so I think Mike Brown can help make this work and help DeRozan improve defensively.
The Bulls have other nice quality assets such as Vucevic, Caruso and Drummond. It is time for the Bulls to close the chapter on this core. We could guess things were not going to go so well after the Bulls held a players-only meeting after losing the very first game of the season against the Oklahoma City Thunder. We are just a couple months away from the trade deadline, February 8th.
