Hornets Get Stung By the Knicks!
The Charlotte Hornets do have the seventh best offensive rating so far this season but they also have the third worst defensive rating and are dead last in three point percentage. Now the Hornets are missing a few rotation players such as Caleb Martin, Frank Ntilikina and Miles Bridges who has been serving a suspension. Bridges' suspension is almost complete, he will be able to return to play this Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks if no setbacks occur. In their recent game against the Knicks, at Madison Square Garden, the Charlotte Hornets were just embarrassed in the most famous arena.
The Hornets' awful defense showed as the Knicks' big three all had twenty points or more on good efficiency. Jalen Brunson scored 20 points shooting 7 of 12 from the field (58%) and 2 of 4 from 3-point range (50%). RJ Barrett continues to show offensive improvements, scoring 24 points shooting 9 of 16 from the field (56%) and 4 of 6 from 3-point range (67%). Julius Randle has had terrible offensive struggles early on this season but had a huge bounce back against the Hornets. Randle scored 23 points shooting 8 of 16 from the field (50%).
Can't look away from Immanuel Quickley who continues to show offensive improvements. Quickley was the only player off the bench in double figures scoring 17 points shooting 5 of 9 from the field (56%) and 4 of 6 from 3-point range (67%) against the Hornets. Quickley is looking like a very early candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award and he was a finalist for it last season. Quickley and the Knicks did not agree on a rookie-extension this summer so you can expect him to continue to play like he has something to prove.
Lamelo Ball continues to show that he is an All-Star caliber player in the NBA. It has actually been some time since Lamelo Ball played against the Knicks, last time that happened was on March 3rd, 2022. Last season Lamelo Ball was sidelined for multiple stretches of the season due to ankle injuries. Well he was able to suit up against the Knicks this time and scored 32 points shooting 13 of 20 from the field (65%) and 4 of 8 from 3-point range (50%). The Hornets are clearly committed to building around Ball but they've got to start stringing some wins before things get out of control as the Knicks blew out the Hornets by twenty two points (Knicks 129, Knicks 107).
