Chicago All-Star Guard On the Market?

There is no secret that the Chicago Bulls are frustrated. In the summer of 2021 they brought in two All-Stars, Demar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic, and added Lonzo Ball. Those pieces along with Zach LaVine were flowing and were even number one in the East until the injury bug took a big bite. Last year on January, Lonzo Ball suffered a knee injury that has kept him sidelined to this day and the Bulls have not recovered in his absence.

Despite still having three All-Stars the Bulls just haven't been the same without Lonzo Ball. Last season the Bulls finished as the 10th seed and missed the playoffs. They did make the play-in tournament and beat the Raptors in the first game but lost to the Heat the next game that would've qualified them for the playoffs. This is obviously not what the Bulls expected after bringing in big pieces to compliment Zach LaVine and it may be time to move on.

After losing their very first game of the new season, against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Bulls held a players only meeting right after the game. That is just unheard of, a players only meeting after the very first game of the season. It does not get any better for the Bulls because in their third game of the season, against the Detroit Pistons, Zach LaVine scored 51 points and they still lost the game. Just recently, it was reported by Shams Charania that the Bulls and LaVine are both opened to the idea of exploring a trade.

LaVine signed a max 5-year deal last summer, with the final year being a player-option, so he is still under contract for the foreseeable future. So far, teams that are interested in trading for LaVine are the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers did get multiple draft picks in the James Harden trade so they may not be done making moves. The Lakers do have a few draft picks available that they can trade but not so sure if the Bulls are interested in the pieces they have.

Demar DeRozan is on an expiring deal and while the Bulls would love to bring him back DeRozan is not ready to commit just yet. DeRozan wants to wait and see how things unwrap with the Bulls before making a decision so it looks likely he will enter free agency next summer. Nikola Vucevic signed a 3-year deal this past summer. While he is under contract, if the Bulls look to trade LaVine and DeRozan enters free agency, then the Bulls will look to move Vucevic as well. Bulls recently lost to the Orlando Magic, have a 4-8 record and are 12th in the Eastern Conference.
