Rookie Extensions!
Wizards Forward Deni Avdija has agreed to a 4-year, $55 Million contract extension. His deal kicks in the following season and will last until the 2027-28 season. It is worth mentioning the deal is fully-guaranteed. Pacers Forward Aaron Nesmith agreed to a 3-year, $33 Million contract extension. Nesmith started his career with the Boston Celtics but was traded in the summer of 2022 that led to the Celtics landing Malcolm Brogdon. Nesmith's deal kicks in the following season and will last until the 2026-27 season, plus it is fully-guaranteed.
Timberwolves Forward Jaden McDaniels agreed to a 5-year, $136 Million contract extension. McDaniels has earned himself a massive bag and made a home for himself in Minnesota. McDaniels has the potential to be a Defensive Player of the Year candidate. McDaniels' extension kicks in the following season and will last until the 2028-29 season, fully-guaranteed. Magic Guard Cole Anthony agreed on a 3-year, $39 Million contract extension. Last season Anthony played more in a coming-off-the-bench role after primarily playing as a starter the season before. The first two years of Cole's deal is fully-guaranteed and the final year is a club option.
Mavericks Guard/Forward Josh Green agreed to a 3-year, $41 Million contract extension. Green has been a solid role player for the Mavericks and his new deal kicks in following season and keeps him under contract until the 2026-27 season, fully-guaranteed. Hawks Forward/Center Onyeka Okongwu agreed to a 4-year, $62 Million contract extension. Okongu was primarily been the backup center in Atlanta and does provide some solid rim protection when he subs in for Clint Capela. Okongwu's new deal kicks in the following season and he will remain under contract until the 2027-28 season, fully-guaranteed.
As I mentioned earlier, some players manage to get a deal done while others do not. Players such as Hawks Forward Saddiq Bey, Knicks Guard Immanuel Quickley, Bulls Forward Patrick Williams, Pacers Forward Obi Toppin and Raptors Forward/Center Precious Achiuwa did not sign a contract extension and will enter Restrictive Free Agency next summer. Bey, Toppin and Achiuwa were traded to their current teams. The player in this group who stands out the most is Immanuel Quickley as last season he was the runner up for the Sixth Man of the Year award. These guys will have this season to solidify their cases that they deserve the contracts they are looking for.
