The Beam is Lit Against the Lakers in OT!
On the Kings side the two All-Stars, Fox and Sabonis, had solid performances despite dealing with some foul trouble. Sabonis finished the game with a double-double, scoring 12 points shooting 5 of 8 from the field (63%) and 1 for 1 from 3 point range (100%), 15 rebounds including 1 offensive rebound, 5 assists and a steal. It is worth mentioning that Sabonis did not play in overtime due to fouling out in the fourth quarter. Fox finished the game scoring 37 points shooting 14 of 24 from the field (58%) and 3 of 8 from 3 point range (38%), 4 rebounds including 1 offensive rebound, 8 assists, a steal and a block. It is also worth mentioning that Fox appeared to have sprained his ankle and while he did return to finish the game he did not play more than a minute in overtime. The Kings got great contribution from second-year Forward Keegan Murray who scored 17 points including 10 in the fourth quarter, shooting 6 of 14 from the field (43%) and 3 for 9 from 3 point range (33%), 8 rebounds including 3 offensive rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block.
On the Lakers side the two superstars, LeBron and Davis, had solid performances despite falling short in overtime. Davis was a presence in the paint and made some shots from the outside, scoring 30 points shooting 11 of 22 from the field (50%) and 1 of 2 from 3 point range (50%), 16 rebounds including 6 offensive rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. Despite Darvin Ham, Lakers' head coach, wanting to be mindful of LeBron's minutes he did play for 39 minutes. LeBron scored 27 points shooting 11 of 19 from the field (58%) and 3 for 8 from 3 point range (38%), 15 rebounds and 8 assists. LeBron also made a layup which sent the game into overtime. The Lakers got great contribution from Taurean Prince who scored 20 points shooting 7 of 17 from the field (41%) and 5 for 13 from 3 point range (38%), 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Lakers starting Shooting Guard, Austin Reaves, had a poor shooting night only scoring 5 points shooting 1 of 12 from the field (8%) from the field and 1 for 8 from 3 point range (13%).
Last season the Kings had the highest offensive rating, 119.4 rating. They still have to make some improvements defensively but the Kings can still generate great offense. We are only just three games into the season but Gabe Vincent, who the Lakers signed this past summer, is still struggling to find his offense. Both of these teams are looking to be very competitive in a crazy Western Conference.
