Danny Green is Back in the City of Brotherly Love
The last time we saw Danny Green with the Philadelphia 76ers was in Game 6 of the 2022 playoffs during the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals against the Miami Heat. In the first quarter, at the 9:01 mark, Joel Embiid was attacking the basket but as he went down he landed on Danny Green's knees. It was later announced that Danny Green tore the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral cruciate ligament in his left knee. The Sixers would end up losing that game thus ending their post-season run.
It was pretty clear that Danny Green would miss significant time for the 2022-23 season given the impact his knee took. While Green was a solid piece for the Sixers in his couple seasons with the team the Sixers just were not going to wait for Green to come back, at the time it was unclear when Green could possibly return. During the 2022 NBA draft the Philadelphia 76ers traded Danny Green and the draft rights to David Roddy (the 23rd overall pick) to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Guard De'Anthony Melton. So Danny Green took his rehabbing journey to Memphis and he would eventually be cleared to play. On February 1st, Danny Green returned to the court but would only play in three games for the Memphis Grizzlies but at the trade deadline Green was moved from Memphis to Houston. However the Houston Rockets had no plans to keep Green so both parties agreed on a contract buyout.
After Green had his contract bought out he would then sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the remainder of the 2022-23 season. It was a full circle moment as Danny Green spent his rookie year with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers finished the season as the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference and would go up against the 5th seed New York Knicks. The Cavaliers would lost the first-round series against the Knicks in 5 games with Green playing in 4 games of the series. Now, after a long offseason Danny Green is returning to the Philadelphia 76ers on a 1-year deal, $3.1 Million contract. Green is heading into his 15th season and can still provide some solid shooting.
