Alex Caruso Traded to OKC!

We now have the first official trade of the offseason. As reported by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Chicago Bulls are trading two-time All-Defensive guard Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Josh Giddey. Matter of fact, this is the first trade the Bulls have made since August 2021, when they acquired Derrick Jones Jr in a three-team deal. An interesting thing about this new trade is the Oklahoma City Thunder have a ton of draft picks and didn't have to give up any. Plenty of teams have contacted the Bulls in regards to Caruso, willing to give up picks and they didn't end up with any.

The Thunder acquire a highly respect role-player who is known for his incredible defense, and hustle plays, somebody who is willing to do the little things that lead to winning. Wojnarowski made the comparison of this trade the same as when the Golden State Warriors acquired Andre Iguodala in 2013. Both young teams acquire a great veteran who can make an impact on and off the court. Caruso is entering the final year of his deal and will be eligible for a four-year, approximately $80 million contract extension. The Thunder will reportedly work with Caruso to get an extension done as they plan to keep him long-term.

Minus Lonzo Ball, the Chicago Bulls do have other solid young pieces at the guard position. Coby White, who is coming off the best year in his young NBA career, Ayo Dosunmu averaged career-highs in points (12.2) and shooting 40.3% from three-point range, and now they add Josh Giddey in the mix. Wojnarowski added to his report that "The Bulls have been determined to find a playmaker to replace Lonzo Ball, and Giddey , 21, comes with an All-Star potential that would unlikely be realized with the Thunder because of the playmaking starpower who surrounded him. The Bulls will offer him an opportunity to have the ball in his hands and so much more freedom pass and score." According to K.C. Johnson, a Bulls insider for NBC Sports Chicago, the Chicago Bulls are active on the trade market.
