BREAKING NEWS: Dejounte Murray Traded to New Orleans!

It's been anticipated that the Atlanta Hawks were going to move most of their core players this summer and the first domino has fallen. It was recently reported by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski that the Hawks are trading All-Star guard Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans are sending center/forward Larry Nance Jr, guard Dyson Daniels, a 2025 first-round pick via the Los Angeles Lakers, and a least-favorable Bucks/Pelicans 2027 first-round pick. The Hawks closed the Murray-Young backcourt project that had so much hype when they first joined forces but produced very little team success.

Murray was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in the summer of 2022 from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Danilo Gallinari and three first-round picks, including a pick swap. Pairing him up with All-Star point guard Trae Young was expected to be one of the most exciting backcourts in the entire league. However, the duo did not turn out as successful as the Hawks had hoped. In their two seasons together, the team only made the playoffs once and didn't get past the first round.

As the Hawks move on from Murray and free agency is only a couple days away, we could see more of their core break up. Young is expected to be available on the trade block and his time in Atlanta may have come to an end. De'Andre Hunter and Clint Capela are also expected to gain lots of interest in the market. With the Hawks drafting France prospect Zaccharie Risacher with the first overall pick in this year's draft and Jalen Johnson who is entering his fourth year just had a highly productive season, averaged career-highs in points (16), rebounds (8.7), and assists (3.6), it could be that Atlanta is ready to start a new chapter.

Murray now heads to New Orleans to team up with CJ McCollum Zion Williamson, Herb Jones, and Trey Murphy III. There's been a lot of rumors about the Pelicans looking to move on from Brandon Ingram since he's entering the final year of his contract and the team is reluctant to pay him a max extension. With free agency coming up, the chances of him getting traded increase. The Sacramento Kings and Philadelphia 76ers are teams mentioned to have serious interest in Ingram so there are still plenty of trades to be made.
