Malik Monk Upcoming Free Agency!
Malik Monk just had the best season in his young NBA career. Averaged career-highs in points (15.4) and assists (5.1) per game while coming off the bench. He was runner-up for the Sixth Man of the Year award, Naz Reid from the Minnesota Timberwolves won it. Monk played a huge role in the Sacramento Kings ending their sixteen-year playoff drought last season. Now he will enter free agency this summer and has many suitors ready to make an offer.
Of course, the Sacramento Kings want to re-sign Monk but their offer will be limited compared to other teams. The max they can offer is a four-year, $78 million deal meanwhile teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder have the cap space to outbid that. Three of these teams were in the playoffs this year and Monk can make an immediate impact. He has expressed interest in returning to Sacramento but will likely look at other offers.
It is amazing how in two seasons, Monk has ramped up his NBA career. After playing four years with the Charlotte Hornets, he did not have high value on the market. Then after spending a season with the Los Angeles Lakers, he would show some signs of his great scoring ability as a bench piece but still wasn't taken as seriously. Now after two highly productive seasons in Sacramento, Monk's value has skyrocketed and will earn a huge contract this summer.
