Trae Young On the Trade Block?

Trae Young is a phenomenal point guard who just averaged twenty-five plus points along with ten assists per game for his second straight season. Young and the Hawks made a surprising run to the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2021 postseason but since then they haven't made it past the first-round and this season Young and the Hawks missed the playoffs entirely. Given the lack of success Young and the Hawks have had since their miraculous run, Trae Young has been floating around in trade rumors. Trae Young even addressed the rumors saying his desire is to remain with the Hawks but that he wants to win.

We have seen before how players wish to remain on one team but want a legitimate chance at winning a championship. The Hawks haven't been championship contenders for majority of Trae's tenure. After repeated mediocre seasons it is looking like the Hawks are ready to move on from Trae Young. There were rumors about Trae Young getting traded to San Antonio and pairing him up with future superstar Victor Wembanyama but the Spurs came out saying they don't see Trae Young as a fit with Wembanyama. However that could change as the offseason is nearby.

Of course, the Los Angeles Lakers are a team interested in Trae Young. The Lakers have been searching for a star to pair along with LeBron and Anthony Davis. According to Brian Windhorst, LeBron is expected to opt-out of his player-option and enter free agency for the first time since 2018. If the Lakers could acquire Trae Young that could convince LeBron to remain in LA however LeBron has expressed a deeper desire to play alongside his son Bronny who has declared for the 2024 NBA draft. The Lakers are eligible to trade up to three future first-round picks (2025, 2029 & 2031) and of course they will have to move some players and after being eliminated by the Denver Nuggets after five games in the first-round, the Lakers are strongly looking to make some moves.
