Steven Adams Traded To H-Town!
A trade was just made between the Houston Rockets and the Memphis Grizzlies. Now this trade doesn't have any impact for the remainder of this season but will impact both teams for next season. It was reported by ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski that the Memphis Grizzlies are trading center Steven Adams to the Houston Rockets in return for guard Victor Oladipo and three second-round picks. Steven Adams has been injured dating back to last season but is expected to make a full recovery and be available for the 2024-25 season.
Steven Adams sprained his posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee last year in January against the Phoenix Suns and was expected to be sidelined for only three-to-five weeks. In March, Adams was re-evaluated and underwent a stem-cell injection. Adams was re-evaluated again a month later however Adams was not healthy enough to return for the 2023 playoffs. Adams did not get surgery during the offseason but after a couple preseason games it was announced that Steven Adams would get season-ending surgery on his PCL.
As I mentioned, Adams is expected to make a full recovery and be available for the 2024-25 season. Adams provides size, rebounding, rim protection and veteran leadership for the Houston Rockets. The Rockets have been searching the market for a backup center and found a solid one for next season. Steven Adams will be on the final year of his current deal next season, making $12.6 million. The Rockets are not done making moves as we approach the February 8th trade deadline.
Victor Oladipo's career has been derailed due to a variety of injuries. The last time we saw Oladipo on the court was in the 2023 NBA playoffs, game 3 of the first round against the Milwaukee Bucks, playing for the Miami Heat. In game 3 Oladipo suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee and missed the rest of the NBA playoffs as the Heat went on a historic run, making the NBA Finals as an eighth seed. There is currently no timetable for Oladipo's return but what is more important for Memphis are those three second-round picks. The Grizzlies have two second-round picks in the year's upcoming draft and one in next year's draft.
