Blazers' Big Man Out For the Rest of the Season!

Robert Williams III is most notable for his interior defense and shot blocking. Despite being undersized Williams has shown incredible rim protection abilities. The past couple seasons he was the anchor of the Boston Celtics' defense despite Marcus Smart having won Defensive Player of the Year. After spending his first five seasons in the league in Boston, this past summer Robert Williams III was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Robert Williams III was included in the deal that sent Jrue Holiday to Boston after being traded to Portland in the same deal that sent Damian Lillard to Milwaukee. Along with Williams, Malcolm Brogdon and two first-round picks were also sent to Portland. The veteran big man joins a young Blazers team that is starting over after Lillard's eleven year tenure. Unfortunately, after playing just six games, it was announced that Robert Williams III will be out for the remainder of the season.

While Williams is a very promising young defender he has a history of injuries. The same way NBA fans attack Anthony Davis and how injury prone he is, the same could go for Robert Williams III. Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted "Portland Trail Blazers center Robert Williams III will be required to undergo season-ending right knee surgery." Woj added that "Williams III, who suffered damage to his kneecap and ligaments in a Sunday loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, is expected to be fully recovered for the start of the 2024-2025 season". The Portland Trail Blazers really have no expectations of competing this season but hopefully Robert Williams III comes back stronger and healthier for next season.
