KD Could Not Carry the Suns to Victory!

This Thursday the Suns faced off against the Los Angeles Lakers in LA. This was the home opener for the Lakers and they got their first win of their season in front of their fans, Lakers 100 Suns 95. The Suns were missing their starting backcourt of Bradley Beal, who has yet to play this season, and Devin Booker. The Suns had to heavily rely on Kevin Durant but it was not enough.

After struggling offensively against the Golden State Warriors for the season opener, Kevin Durant knew without the presence of Booker and Beal he had a lot more responsibilities on the offensive end. Kevin Durant is known as one of the best scorers in NBA history. Durant scored 39 points shooting 14 of 28 from the field (50%) and 1 of 5 from 3 point range (20%), 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. While he had a great scoring game he did finish the game with 8 turnovers which is what gave the Lakers momentum towards the end of the game.

Josh Okogie continues to show improvements in his game. Against the Lakers Okogie scored 10 points shooting 3 out of 5 from the field (60%) and 2 for 4 from 3 point range (50%), 8 rebounds including 4 offensive rebounds, 3 assists and a block. Very early into the season, Okogie has just left an impact on both sides of the floor and his three point shooting looks improved which is going to help when the Suns have their full roster available. Tough loss for the Suns but great win for the Lakers.

This was the first time LeBron James and Kevin Durant faced off since Christmas Day in 2018. While Kevin had a good scoring night, LeBron still showed KD that even in year 21 he still isn't slowing down. While Lakers head coach Darvin Ham wants to monitor LeBron's minutes, from 28 to 30 minutes a game, against the Suns he played 35 minutes. LeBron scored 21 points shooting 7 of 14 from the field (50%) and 1 of 5 from 3 point range (20%), 8 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. LeBron scored back-to-back layups in crunch time to seal the game for the Lakers.
