So Long Jones
Kai Jones has been the most interesting player this summer. The Forward/Center was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets back in 2021 with the 19th overall pick. In his couple seasons in the league he hasn't had a consistent role in the rotation. This past summer he took it upon himself, on social media, to let the world know he deserves respect.
Things got so weird with Kai Jones as he went on social media and took shots at his own teammates. The first victims were Hornets Centers Mark Williams and Nick Richards. Kai Jones responded to a comment on Instagram stating that "Mark Williams getting your bum ass of the roster". To which Jones replied by saying "show me a video of mark pulling up going left and hitting it. Anywhere man college some where show me". Jones responded to another comment on IG saying "Nick Richards >>> you", meaning the user was implying that Richards is way better than Kai Jones. To which Kai responded by saying "I'm more assertive with the ball than him I can read myself".
The Kai Jones saga did not stop there as he continued to take shots at his teammates, this time at All-Star Guard Lamelo Ball and the second overall pick in this year's NBA draft Brandon Miller. Jones went on Twitter and said "I've had a higher fg% than those guys [Ball and Miller] since I came out the womb and none of them can guard me so know your ball before you talk to the one in here MF". It only got worse from there, on Twitter when asked if he [Jones] could beat Bron 1v1, Jones replied "yes 100%". It still did not stop there as Jones replied to a comment on Twitter saying "u not beating prime Shaq tho", to which Jones replied "I'll cook prime diesel [Shaq] in here".
This type of behavior went on throughout the whole summer. As training camp approached the Charlotte Hornets had Kai away from the team and there was no timetable for when he would return. It was looking like the Hornets and Jones would look to resolve this behavior internally, that might've been the case before Kai went on Twitter and pulled off another crazy stunt. Jones tweeted "I have officially requested a trade from the Charlotte Hornets". That tweet was a direct league violation in regards of players requesting trades but Kai showed no remorse.
Just a few days later the Hornets announced that they have waived Kai Jones. It is very unclear if we will ever see Jones again in the NBA given this behavior. This past season Jones played in 46 games, averaged 12 minutes, 3 points and 3 rebounds. Kai Jones was very bold this summer and it may have just cost him a good NBA career.
