Kevin Porter Jr Has Been Arrested.

Houston Rockets Guard Kevin Porter Jr has been arrested this Monday, September 11th, in New York for allegedly assaulting and strangling his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick. The couple have been in a relationship for over a year now. According to @NBCNewYork, Kysre was taken to the hospital with at least one bone broken and bruising. A recent report came out by @APNEWS stating in this alleged attack, Kevin Porter Jr punched Kysre in the face repeatedly with a closed fist which left a cut above her right eye and causing bruising and substantial pain. It was also reported that Porter forcefully squeezed Kysre's neck which led to difficult breathing, redness and bruising. It was also reported by @ESPN_Womenhoop that Kysre has a fractured neck vertebrae. Of course more details will be released as time goes on but at the moment of typing this article, this is the info out so far. Kysre's sister, Kalabrya Gondrezick-Haskins voiced her thoughts on the situation via. her Instagram story.

"We are in the process of gathering information surrounding the matter of Kevin Porter Jr.," the Houston Rockets said in a statement. "We have no further comments at this time." The NBA is stepping in on the situation as they are conducting their own investigation on the case. "The league office is in contact with the Houston Rockets and in the process of gathering more information." said by spokesman Mike Bass. As of this moment the Houston Rockets are not allowed to administer any immediate punishment to Porter, including suspension. "Under the terms of the league's domestic violence policy, commissioner Adam Silver has the power to place Porter on administrative leave with pay for 'a reasonable period of time.' Based on the findings of the case, the commissioner can fine, suspend, dismiss or disqualify from any further association with the league and its teams a player who violates the domestic violence policy" (Tim MacMahon / ESPN).

Kevin Porter Jr has a bit of a reputation with having an attitude problem. During his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers Kevin Porter Jr was involved in a couple of incidents. During the 2020-21 season, Kevin Porter Jr had not played for the Cavs due to personal reasons. However, when Porter re-joined the team in January he was upset to find his locker had been taken over by Forward Taurean Prince who was recently acquired, at the time, by the Cavs in a 3-team deal. What made it worse was finding his new locker was located near the "end of the bench" players. Reports say that Porter was yelling and threw food at one point. He would later be traded to the Houston Rockets and actually played the remainder of the season with the Rockets.

Another incident where Porter's attitude problem came up was during a home game against the Denver Nuggets. On January 1st, 2022 the Houston Rockets played a home game against the Denver Nuggets and found themselves down by more than 20 points in the first half. During halftime, in the locker room, Rockets assistant coach John Lucas was calling out Kevin Porter Jr for his performance which led to a heated argument and it was reported that Porter had thrown an object in the locker room. Before the second half started it was reported that Kevin Porter Jr had left the arena and was later suspended from the following game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

In the summer of 2022 Kevin Porter Jr signed a 4-year, $63.4 Million rookie extension with the Houston Rockets however there were some tweaks to the contract. This upcoming season is when the contract begins to kick in. Now for this upcoming season the contract is fully guaranteed, $15.8 Million, but the second year is partially guaranteed, only $1 Million guaranteed, the third year is non-guaranteed and the final year is a club-option so the final year is technically non-guaranteed. Given the situation Porter finds himself in right now, if the Rockets decide to waive Kevin Porter Jr they only owe him $16.8 million out of the $63.4 million. A little side note, if the Rockets decide to waive Porter they won't have a hard time finding his replacement since they signed Guards Fred VanVleet and Aaron Holiday this past summer in Free Agency.
